In the heart of the city of Rotterdam stands the former cinema Thalia. This building, which is a historic monument, was bought by Sfeerhoreca to transform it into a multi-functional venue. Besides the weekly diner shows the venue can accommodate corporate events, live music and cinema.
Together with DEP (design electro products), a company specialized in custom lighting and sound solutions we took on the job to install a 360° screen measuring 3,5 x 70 meters including a high speed main screen of 9 x 6 meters.
The screens on the walls were installed by Thearent and needed some special attention as well, as it was not allowed to fix the screens to the walls due to the fact that the building is a monument. A special rig suspended from the ceiling was engineered to make this possible.
To get this job done we installed 11 Christie DWX951-Q projectors (WXGA, 8500 Lumen), 4 Christie DWU951-Q projectors (WUXGA, 8500 Lumen) and one 1080p 20.000 Lumen projector for the main screen. The total resolution is made on 1200 x 18.500 pixels and is played out by 4 7th Sense Delta servers on TGA. The content was made by Multiverse after making a virtual 3D model of the space.
Several capture cards make sure additional content can be displayed either on the main screen or in one of the PiP’s anywhere on the surface giving the visitors a full immersive experience.
Recently we installed an extra VJ-server to make it possible for VJ’s to create 360° content using either Arkaos or Resolume software. In this way they don’t have to render their content in TGA and making the system more flexible in terms of video files played and swift interaction between music and graphics.
A Panasonic AW-HE120 remote camera together with a Panasonic AW-RP50 remote control provides Villa Thalia with a “Kiss Cam” solution for the club night as well as the possibility to record the diner shows to be used to improve the show.
This concept turned out to be a second to none venue for full immersive shows and business presentations for years to come!
